Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Teach lower and upper division courses in Physics and Physical Sciences (teaching load is 3 courses per semester)
  2. Conduct scholarly research leading to peer-reviewed publications
  3. Order, install, maintain, and operate scientific equipment
  4. Develop new courses and collaborate in curriculum and program development in the Biological, Physical, Health Sciences, and Science Education
  5. Provide academic advising to students
  6. Provide service to the profession and broader community
  7. Participate in program assessment and serve on academic committees
Minimum Qualifications
  1. Earned doctorate degree (PhD) from an accredited college or university in Physics or a closely related field (ABD candidates will be considered but must earn their PhD by August 1, 2019)
  2. Experience teaching general education Physics courses
  3. Demonstrated commitment to diversity and teaching and working with highly diverse and/or indigenous populations
  4. Demonstrated work experience with highly diverse and/or indigenous communities
  5. Evidence of high quality teaching
  6. Evidence of potential for conducting relevant scholarly research
  7. Ability to effectively communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing
Desirable Qualifications
  1. Ability to instruct effectively in a multicultural setting
  2. Experience with laboratory set-up and design
  3. Experience in developing science curricula
  4. Ability and willingness to prepare and teach Physics and/or Biophysics for Native Hawaiian Health Sciences
  5. Commitment to, knowledge of, and/or experience with the mission and purpose of the University of Hawai‘i to position the university as a leading indigenous-serving higher education institution
