  • Contingent on course offerings and student demand, to begin approximately Fall 2018, pending position clearance, availability of funds, and actual staffing requirements. Position may be converted from 9 to 11 months or 11 to 9 months based on operational needs.
Duties and Responsibilities
  1. 1. Under general supervision, design, deliver, and assess instruction in Medical Laboratory Technology in terms of student-learning outcomes; develop and/or update course content and materials and teaching and assessment strategies and methods to:
  2. a. improve student attainment of learning outcomes;
  3. b. address the learning needs of the college's diverse students;
  4. c. integrate thinking and writing skills into course content, as appropriate; and
  5. d. use technology to support instruction.
  6. 2. Plan, organize, and independently carry out independent instructional and non-instructional assignments.
  7. 3. Perform other teaching-related duties that include, but are not limited to, preparing course syllabi and maintaining office hours for academic advising and for conferring with students about course work (one office hour per week per three-credit class).
  8. 4. Regular workload may include evening and weekend classes, continuing-education classes, distance education classes, and teaching at off-campus sites.
  9. 5. Non-teaching duties include:
  10. a. working collegially to provide service to the department and college,
  11. b. engaging in public service related to one's professional status and/or expertise,
  12. c. engaging in professional development, and
  13. d. engaging in professional or scholarly activities related to one's discipline or teaching.
  14. 6. Perform related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  1. 1. Master’s degree Health or Health related field), at least 3 years of work experience in a clinical setting, PLUS current Hawai'i MLS/MLT State License; OR
  2. 2. Bachelor of Science Degree in Medical Laboratory Science (MLS), at least 3 years of work experience in a clinical setting, PLUS current Hawai'i MLS State License; OR
  3. 3. Bachelor’s degree in any field or discipline AND Associate’s degree in Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT), at least 3 years of work experience in a clinical setting, PLUS current Hawai'i MLT State License.
  4. 4. If qualified applicants are not available, others will be considered on an Acting Instructor basis
Desirable Qualifications
  1. 1. Successful teaching at the post-secondary level as substantiated by student and peer assessments;
  2. 2. evidence of ability to work in a collegial manner with peers, department chairs, and administrators;
  3. 3. evidence of experience integrating writing, technology, and thinking skills in the teaching of MLT curriculum;
  4. 4. ability to write clear prose as substantiated by writing samples;
  5. 5. successful use of technology to support instruction inside and outside of the traditional classroom;
  6. 6. commitment to the mission and values of the community college with its open-door and multicultural populations;
  7. 7. ability to initiate, execute, and complete projects, including setting specific objectives and measuring results.
