  • The University of Hawaii at Manoa, School of Nursing and Dental Hygiene (UHM SONDH) invites qualified applicants for one (1) tenure-track, 11 month, faculty position. Specific priorities include undergraduate and graduate nursing education and research in support of the school’s research agenda to address health disparities in Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander populations. The position is designated to transcend traditional academic boundaries and focus on cross-disciplinary solutions to nursing and health issues facing Native Hawaiian and other Indigenous communities. Continuous recruitment; 1st review begins on September 4, 2018; 2nd review will be on October 15, 2018; review of applications will continue until position is filled.
Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Teach in the undergraduate and/or graduate program.
  2. Conduct professional/scientific research.
  3. Maintain an active research program.
  4. Provide service to the school, university, profession, and community.
  5. Perform other duties as assigned.
Assistant Professor Minimum Qualifications
  1. Doctorate degree from an accredited program with a research dissertation completed in nursing or a field relevant to the research and scholarship interests of the UHM SONDH;
  2. Demonstrated ability as a teacher;
  3. Demonstrated scholarly achievement;
  4. Poise and good address for meeting and conferring with others.
Associate Professor Minimum Qualifications
  1. Doctorate degree from an accredited program with a research dissertation completed in nursing or a field relevant to the research and scholarship interests of the UHM SONDH;
  2. Four years of service as a faculty member in an academic university at the rank of assistant professor or equivalent;
  3. Has a clearly defined focus of research;
  4. Demonstrated ability to effectively interact with, teach, train, supervise, mentor, and/or collaborate with a variety of individuals, including community members, clinicians/practitioners, students and junior researchers;
  5. Demonstrated competency in interdisciplinary team work and team science;
  6. Recent publication in peer reviewed journals;
  7. Current extramurally funded research program;
  8. Demonstrated record of leadership in department, university, and profession;
  9. Evidence of proficiency in teaching;
  10. Continued evidence of participation in the scholarly and academic affairs of a university or other appropriate organization, or in an appropriate professional society or organization, or in other appropriate job-related service activities.
Assistant Professor Desirable Qualifications
  1. Coursework in curriculum development and health sciences education.
  2. Certification or eligibility in advanced practice nursing.
  3. Demonstrated scholarly interest and promise relevant to the field of Native Hawaiian or indigenous health.
  4. Demonstrated competency in interdisciplinary team work and team science.
  5. Demonstrated experience in extramurally funded research.
  6. Scientific peer-reviewed publications in major journals.
  7. Experience with nursing or healthcare technology based simulation education.
Associate Professor Desirable Qualifications
  1. Coursework in curriculum development and evaluation.
  2. Certification or eligibility in advanced practice nursing.
  3. Demonstrated scholarly interest and promise relevant to the field of Native Hawaiian or indigenous health.
  4. Experience with nursing or healthcare technology based simulation education.
