  • The UHM School of Nursing and Dental Hygiene invites qualified applicants for a tenure track, 100% FTE, 9-month faculty position. Position is expected to begin approximately August 2018 or as mutually acceptable. The Department of Dental Hygiene offers the Bachelor’s degree and a post-baccalaureate Professional Certificate in Extended Function Dental Hygiene (EFDH). Incoming faculty will be capable to serve as Department Chair and expected to maintain an active program of teaching, service, and research. All ranks are commensurate with qualifications. This individual is expected to provide quality teaching and learning opportunities in the classroom, laboratory and pre-clinic and clinic setting, participate in collaborative assessment of student learning outcomes, and contribute to continuous quality improvement and systematic evaluation of curriculum. Position requires a flexible schedule to accommodate course offerings and dental hygiene clinic operations, as well as interisland travel for the advanced professional certificate clinical experiences. Employment requires health certifications, immunizations, and licensure. Duties and Responsibilities
  1. 1. Conduct assigned courses and seminars in the undergraduate dental hygiene program and/or advanced professional certificate program.
  2. 2. Serve as academic advisor to students.
  3. 3. Provide service to the department, school, university, profession and community.
  4. 4. Participate in curriculum development activities.
  5. 5. Conduct professional/scientific research.
  6. 6. Maintain an active research program.
  7. 7. Serve as department chair as needed.
  8. 8. Other duties as assigned.
Associate Professor Minimum Qualifications
  1. 1. Doctorate degree in health, education, or related field from a college or university of recognized standing;
  2. 2. Evidence of proficiency in teaching;
  3. 3. Demonstrated scholarly achievement;
  4. 4. Four years of college or university teaching at the rank of assistant professor or equivalent with evidence of increasing professional maturity;
  5. 5. Demonstrated ability to plan and organize assigned activities, including the supervision of work of assistants when appropriate;
  6. 6. Continued evidence of participation in the scholarly and academic affairs of a university or other appropriate organization, or in an appropriate professional society or organization, or in other appropriate job-related service activities;
  7. 7. Demonstrated ability to serve as a role model for students and junior colleagues;
  8. 8. Graduate from a CODA accredited dental hygiene program;
  9. 9. A minimum of 2 years full time or equivalent clinical experience;
  10. 10.State of Hawaii licensure as Dental Hygienist;
  11. 11.State of Hawaii certification to administer intra-oral anesthesia inclusive of regional blocks;
  12. 12.Demonstrated poise and good address for meeting and conferring with others.
Professor Minimum Qualifications
  1. 1. Doctorate degree in health, education, or related field from a college or university of recognized standing;
  2. 2. Evidence of excellence in teaching;
  3. 3. Demonstrated scholarly achievement;
  4. 4. Four years of college or university teaching at the rank of associate professor or equivalent with evidence of increasing professional maturity;
  5. 5. Research productivity which has resulted in significant recognition by the national or international community of scholars active in oral health;
  6. 6. A minimum of 2 years full time or equivalent clinical experience;
  7. 7. Demonstrated ability to plan and organize assigned activities, including the supervision of work of assistants when appropriate;
  8. 8. Demonstrated continuing participation in the scholarly and academic affairs of a university or other appropriate organization, or in an appropriate professional society or organization, or in other appropriate job-related service activities;
  9. 9. Demonstrated ability to undertake a variety of assignments within the University;
  10. 10.Demonstrated capacity for leadership in the department and scholarly discipline;
  11. 11.Graduate from a CODA accredited dental hygiene program;
  12. 12.State of Hawaii licensure as Dental Hygienist;
  13. 13.State of Hawaii certification to administer intra-oral anesthesia inclusive of regional blocks;
  14. 14.Demonstrated poise and good address for meeting and conferring with others.
Associate Professor Desirable Qualifications
  1. 1. Demonstrated competency in interdisciplinary team work and team science;

  3. 3. Coursework in curriculum development and health sciences education;
  4. 4. Recent publication in peer reviewed journals.
Professor Desirable Qualifications
