Duties and Responsibilities
  1. This position serves as the single point-of-contact for infrastructure issues. Engages and coordinates with staff from multiple teams to deliver technical solutions.
  2. Install, configure, upgrade, test, and maintain enterprise software applications.
  3. Identify, analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve enterprise application problems. Escalate as necessary to ensure resolution.
  4. Implement, test, maintain and document integrations between applications (internal and external).
  5. Implement application software monitoring, tuning, and problem resolution.
  6. Develop, test, document, implement and enhance backup and recovery procedures.
  7. Develop, document, implement and enhance applications change management procedures and activities.
  8. Design, develop, test, and document scripts and routines as needed for enhancing and automating application infrastructure monitoring, routine tasks, and overall application infrastructure management.
  9. Develop, document, implement standards and procedures related to application infrastructure administration, such as: general administration, job scheduling, problem escalation, product installation, change management, performance monitoring, etc.
  10. Communicate and work effectively with managerial, administrative, and technical staff to determine project needs and document these requirements.
  11. Exercise discretion and creativity in the adaptation and application of evolving technologies and broad practical and emerging technical concepts, products, tools and services on a variety of diverse and multiple platforms.
  12. Make decisions regarding the application and modification of existing and emerging technologies, systems hardware and software that significantly impact various UH unit operations, multiple platforms, and numerous users.
  13. Work directly with customers and assess requirements based on strategic initiatives and customer needs; assess feasibility, cost and risk factors.
  14. Determine software, equipment, and other tools necessary to implement the system.
  15. Determine project requirements; evaluate progress during project stages; and modify work schedule and tools utilized to meet project requirements.
  16. Work cooperatively with internal security teams to ensure application infrastructure is hardened and complies with UH policies and standards.
  17. Keep abreast of the relevant industry trends by perusing technical journals and periodicals.
  18. Investigate techniques and strategies utilized by other installations, especially higher education institutions, by participating in various professional organizations.
  19. Regularly monitor forums where job related issues are announced and discussed to stay informed of related problems and issues as they appear and are announced. Pass on technical comments and suggestions that may be beneficial to colleagues.
  20. Update technical skills by attending seminars, classes, and industry conferences.
  21. Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  1. Possession of a pertinent baccalaureate educational degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems or related field and 3 years of progressively responsible professional information technology experience with responsibilities for Enterprise Application Infrastructure Administration, of which 2 years of the experience must have been comparable in scope and complexity to the next lower payband in the University of Hawai'i broadband system; or equivalent education/training or experience.
  2. Considerable working knowledge of Enterprise Application Infrastructure Administration as demonstrated by the broad knowledge and understanding of the full range of pertinent standard and evolving information technology concepts, principles and methodology.
  3. Considerable working knowledge and understanding of the broad technology, systems, hardware and software associated with Enterprise Application Infrastructure Administration.
  4. Considerable working knowledge of network and web related protocols such as TCP/IP, UDP IPSEC, HTTP, and HTTPS.
  5. Considerable working knowledge of one or more Database Management Systems (DBMS) such as Oracle or MySQL.
  6. Demonstrated ability to recognize a wide range of intricate problems, use reasoning and logic to determine accurate causes, and apply principles and practices to determine, evaluation, integrate, and implement practical and thorough solutions in an effective and timely manner.
  7. Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials.
  8. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders and members, and individuals.
  9. Demonstrated ability to develop complex scripts or programs using languages such as PHP, PERL, C-shell or PowerShell.
  10. Demonstrated ability to speak, read, comprehend, interpret, and write fluently in English.
  11. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships in a positive, service-oriented manner with others.
  12. Demonstrated ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions and documentation, write reports and procedures, and communicate effectively in a variety of situations.
  13. Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with supervisor, project staff, and customers in a team environment to accomplish tasks and to meet deadlines.
  14. Demonstrated ability and interest to learn and apply new tools and technologies independently and in a timely manner using books, manuals, and other resources.
  15. Functional knowledge and understanding of technology, systems, hardware and software associated with enterprise application infrastructure administration.
  16. Ability to work a variable work schedule; and work outside normally scheduled work hours including day, night, weekend and/or holiday hours, as directed.
  17. For supervisory work, demonstrated ability to lead subordinates, manage work priorities and projects, and manage employee relations.
  18. Any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
Desirable Qualifications
  1. Experience and working knowledge of cloud computing solutions particularly infrastructure as a service providers such as Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure.
  2. Considerable working knowledge with supporting Banner by Ellucian: Student, Financial Aid, Accounts Receivable and Operational Data Store.
  3. Considerable working knowledge with supporting KFS (Kuali Financial System).
  4. Considerable working knowledge with supporting Sakai online learning.
  5. Considerable working knowledge with supporting Apache and Tomcat.
  6. Considerable working knowledge with implementing and supporting packages for application developers such as Subversion, GIT, and Hudson.
  7. Considerable working knowledge with supporting Graylog, Puppet, Zabbix, or Ansible.
