Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Analyzes and documents existing processes, procedures, and data; designs and implements online forms and user interfaces according to specifications.
  2. Analyzes, develops, and documents technical interfaces among devices and software packages.
  3. Gathers information on best practices, open source software tools and commercial software.
  4. Prepares specifications for ad-hoc requests.
  5. Develops software according to specifications.
  6. Performs tasks in an Integrated Development Environment.
  7. Prototypes user interfaces.
  8. Modifies documented and/or undocumented software and applications.
  9. Develops program documentation, which includes general and detailed flowcharts, operating instructions, technical description, input and output file layouts, screen layouts, and report layouts.
  10. Develops data migration procedures. Determine and schedule tasks for converting data to new format.
  11. Performs testing of programs and applications, such as unit testing, integration testing, system testing, load testing, usability testing; coordinates system testing; tests data migration scripts and report programs with reformatted data and files.
  12. Performs software quality assurance throughout the entire development process.
  13. System installation and implementation – instructs users on the basic operation of the system and provides them with the necessary documentation; creates new files according to specifications.
  14. Contacts users on any production problems that would interfere with the normal use of the system.
  15. Updates production documentation that accurately reflects any changes to the application and/or processing.
  16. Assists when problems occur with applications and hardware.
  17. Answers any questions that users may have or redirects them to someone who may be able to provide appropriate answers.
  18. Assists in developing training materials for systems, applications and analytic tools supported by Enterprise Systems (ES).
  19. Assists in training personnel in the use of systems, applications and analytic tools supported by ES.
  20. Assists users in resolving user and/or computer error(s).
  21. Provides consulting assistance to users.
  22. Troubleshoots any problems that the users may have relating to systems, applications and analytic tools supported by ES.
  23. Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  1. As typically acquired/evidenced by pertinent baccalaureate educational degree and 2 year(s) of progressively responsible professional information technology experience with responsibilities for functional and systems analysis; possession of the following competencies in technical knowledge, critical thinking skills, communication skills and interpersonal skills:
  2. Functional knowledge of software development demonstrated by knowledge, understanding and ability to apply principles, concepts, methodology and terminology.
  3. Functional knowledge and understanding of technology, systems, hardware and software associated with software development.
  4. Functional knowledge of HTML and CSS.
  5. Functional knowledge of one or more Database Management Systems (DBMS) such as Oracle or MySQL.
  6. Functional knowledge of coding practices necessary for developing web-based applications; prototyping and iterative development techniques; and systems development methodology and techniques.
  7. Demonstrated ability to recognize problems, identify possible causes and resolve routine problems.
  8. Demonstrated ability to understand oral and written documentation, write reports and procedures, and communicate effectively in a variety of situations.
  9. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team members and individuals.
  10. Demonstrated ability to develop clean, structured programs and conduct thorough testing.
  11. Demonstrated ability to speak, read, comprehend, interpret, and write fluently in English.
  12. Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with supervisor, project staff, and customers in a team environment to accomplish tasks and to meet deadlines.
  13. Demonstrated ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions and documentation, write reports and procedures, and communicate effectively in a variety of situations.
  14. Demonstrated ability to learn and apply new technologies independently and in a timely manner using books, manuals, and other resources.
  15. Working knowledge of Java.
  16. Working knowledge of SQL (Structured Query Language).
  17. Ability to work a variable work schedule; work outside normally scheduled work hours including day, night, weekend and/or holiday hours, as directed.
  18. Any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
Desirable Qualifications
  1. Functional knowledge of JavaScript and related technologies such as JQuery, React, AngularJS and Node.js.
  2. Functional knowledge of XML.
  3. Functional knowledge of an IDE such as Eclipse or IntelliJ.
  4. Functional knowledge of usability concepts and disability requirements for web-based applications.
  5. Functional knowledge of SAS Products and Solutions such as SAS Visual Analytics, SAS Enterprise Guide and SAS Studio.
  6. Functional knowledge of information systems used in higher education such as Ellucian Banner Student.
  7. Functional knowledge of the Kuali Financial System.
  8. Functional knowledge of Oracle’s PeopleSoft Human Capital Management (formerly known as Human Resources) System.
