- Contingent on course offerings and student demand, to begin as soon as possible, pending position clearance, availability of funds, and actual staffing requirements. Position may be converted from 11to 9 months or 9 to 11 months based on operational needs. CAPTE standards require one FT faculty member to be a PT. Since the current FTE is a PTA, this position must be filled by a licensed PT.
- As Clinical Education Coordinator (CEC) and under general supervision, maintain, manage and administer a CAPTE-accredited Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) Program; plan, develop, coordinate and facilitate the clinical education program, including; effectiveness in:
- 1) Organizational, interpersonal, problem-solving and counseling skills; and
- 2) Be able to work with clinical education faculty (CCCEs and CIs) to address the diverse needs of the students.
- 3) Developing, conducting, and coordinating the clinical education program in accordance with CAPTE accreditation standards.
- Work with the Program Director to develop:
- 1) Mechanisms to communicate information about clinical education with core faculty, clinical education sites, clinical education faculty (CCCEs and CIs), and students.
- 2) Systems to inform clinical education faculty of their responsibilities.
- 3) The timing of communications related to clinical education to the core faculty, clinical education sites, clinical education faculty (CCCEs and CIs), and students.
- 4) Processes used to monitor that the academic regulations are upheld.
- 5) Methods used to assign students to clinical education experiences.
- 6) Measures to ensure that the supervision and feedback provided to students is appropriate for each student in each clinical education experience, assuming that the student is progressing through the program in the expected manner.
- 7) Processes to determine if altered level of clinical supervision and feedback is communicated to the clinical education faculty, and monitored during the experience.
- Teach in and assess classroom, lab, and/or community-based instruction in terms of end-of-program and course learning outcomes; develop and implement teaching and assessment strategies and methods to:
- 1) improve learning outcomes;
- 2) address the learning needs of the college’s diverse students;
- 3) integrate thinking and writing skills into course content where appropriate.
- Regular workload may include evening and weekend classes, continuing education classes, distance education classes. Perform other teaching-related duties that include, but are not limited to, preparing course syllabi and maintaining office hours for academic advising and for conferring with students about coursework; prepare graduating students for certification/licensure exam. Non-teaching duties include:
- 1) working collegially to provide service to the department and college,
- 2) engaging in professional development and professional or scholarly activities related to one’s discipline and
- 3) engaging in public service related to one’s professional status and/or expertise.
- Bachelor’s degree in Physical Therapy (PT) from a CAPTE accredited physical therapist education program.
- AND current Hawai‘i state Licensed Physical Therapist
- PLUS three years of full-time experience in post-licensure clinical practice plus two years of clinical practice as a CCCE and/or CI or two years of experience in teaching, curriculum development and administration in a PT or PTA program.
- Same as Instructor, plus a minimum of five years of service at the rank of Instructor or equivalent.
- Successful teaching and clinical experience in Physical Therapy practice.
- Successful teaching experience in a PTA Program.
- Experience in instruction, curriculum design, program planning, accreditation, and in academic/clinical coordination.
- Member of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA)
- Earned status as an APTA Credentialed Clinical Instructor.
- Current CPR certification
- Proof of knowledge in Hawaii State Physical Therapy Ethics and Practice Laws
- 30 Continuing Competence Units within two years
- Experience in supervising a PTA in a clinical setting
