Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Under general supervision, to conduct courses in the subject field as stated below in the Minimum Qualifications.
  2. Maintain office hours of at least one hour per week for each course taught.
  3. Prepare course outlines and reports related to teaching and student progress.
  4. Work under supervision of department chairperson in integrating teaching efforts with other instructors in the discipline area.
  5. Student and peer evaluations and self-assessment of teaching effectiveness are required.
  6. May include instructional assignments involving distance learning.
  7. Commitment to community college principles and philosophy is essential.
  8. The college strongly emphasizes the “open door” concept and serves a diverse student and community population.
  9. Detailed description of the subject field for the following area: • NURSING: to conduct courses in nursing specialty areas, such as medical/surgical, pediatrics, OB, and/or mental health.
Minimum Qualifications
  1. All degrees must be earned from an accredited institution. If qualified applicants are not available, those not meeting minimum qualifications may be considered on an exception basis.
  2. EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION: (a) Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education (ECE) or related fields (Human Development, Family Resources, Human Ecology, and Social Work with a specialty in ECE) OR (b) Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education (ECE) or related fields (Human Development, Family Resources, Human Ecology, and Social Work with a specialty in ECE) and three years related work experience.
  3. MEDICAL ASSISTING: a) Master’s degree in a health field and current certification as a Medical Assistant by a credentialing organization accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) OR (b) Baccalaureate degree in a health field, three years healthcare experience, and current certification as a Medical Assistant by a credentialing organization accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) OR (c) Associate degree in Medical Assisting or health field, five years healthcare experience, and current certification as a Medical Assistant by a credentialing organization accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) OR (d) Certificate in Medical Assisting with 30 or more college credits, seven years healthcare experience, current certification as a Medical Assistant by a credentialing organization accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA).
  4. NURSING: MSN and at least one year of hospital experience in one of the areas of teaching responsibility. Preferably this experience will have been gained within the last five years of date of application. RN eligible for Hawai'i State License. License required by effective date of employment.
Desirable Qualifications
  1. Successful community college teaching experience.
  2. Ability to use writing assignments and integrate teaching of appropriate thinking skills into course content as an integral part of students’ classroom learning activities.
