Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Teach major and non-major undergraduate and graduate level food science courses, such as Experimental Foods, Post-harvest Food Product Development, Sensory Evaluation/Flavor Chemistry, Nutritional Biochemistry, according to departmental needs and priorities.
  2. Advise undergraduate and graduate students, supervise graduate student laboratory experiences, and to provide leadership and direction in the area of food science for the department.
  3. Develop a competitive research program in food science as it relates to post-harvest tropical product development, functional foods based on local production, or biochemical changes in food processing/packaging. Obtain extramural funds to support research program and facilitate interdisciplinary research.
  4. Participate in departmental, college, and university committee work and service.
Minimum Qualifications
  1. Doctorate in Food Science/Chemistry/Processing or related field from a college or university of recognized standing. ABD candidates may be considered, but all degree requirements must be completed at the time of hire.
  2. Demonstrated ability as a teacher.
  3. Demonstrated scholarly achievement.
  4. Poise and good address for meeting and conferring with others.
Desirable Qualifications
  1. One year of post-doctoral experience.
  2. Strong food biochemistry/nutritional biochemistry background
  3. Excellent written and oral communications skills.
  4. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively.
  5. Peer-reviewed publications
  6. Track record of successful grant writing.
  7. Experience developing and teaching distance learning courses.
