  • Summer 2017, part-time, for lecturer applicant pool. Non-tenurial, pending availability of funds, and actual staffing requirements. May be for Leeward CC day, evening, or weekend offerings on- and off-campus. This includes the Waianae campus.
Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Teach assigned courses in the discipline.
  2. Maintain minimum of one office hour per week for each course taught.
  3. Prepare course syllabus and reports related to teaching and student progress.
  4. Work under supervision of discipline coordinator/division chairperson in integrating teaching efforts with other instructors in the discipline area.
  5. May include instructional assignments involving distance education.
Minimum Qualifications
  1. As listed below. All minimum qualifications must be from a regionally accredited institution and met by the effective date of appointment. If qualified applicants are not available, those not meeting the minimum qualifications may be considered on an exception basis.
  2. AMERICAN STUDIES: Master’s in American Studies.
  3. ANTHROPOLOGY: Master’s in Anthropology.
  4. BIOCHEMISTRY: Master’s in Biochemistry, Chemistry, Biology, or appropriate biological science.
  5. BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES: Master’s in Biological Sciences (Biology, Botany, Microbiology, Zoology, Biomedical Sciences).
  6. CHEMISTRY: Master’s in Chemistry.
  7. ECONOMICS: Master’s in Economics.
  8. EDUCATION: (a) Master’s in Education; OR (b) Bachelor’s in Education and 3 years of related work experience.
  9. GEOGRAPHY: Master’s in Geography.
  10. HEALTH: (a) Master’s in Health or Health related field and Certificates as appropriate, e.g., First Aid, CPR; OR (b) Bachelor’s in Health or Health related field and 3 years of related work experience and Certificates as appropriate, e.g., First Aid, CPR; OR (c) Associate Degree in Health or Health related field and a Baccalaureate degree in any field and 5 years of related work experience and Certificates as appropriate, e.g., First Aid, CPR.
  11. HUMAN DEVELOPMENT (FAMILY RESOURCES): (a) Master’s in Human Development (Family Resources); OR (b) Master’s in Family and Consumer Sciences (Family Resources); OR (c) Master’s in Human Development; OR (d) Master’s in Psychology, Social Work, Education, Sociology, Nursing or Public Health with 12 credits of advanced coursework in Human Development (life span).
  12. HUMAN SERVICES: (a) Master’s in Human Services; OR (b) Bachelor’s in Human Services and 3 years of related work experience.
  13. INFORMATION AND COMPUTER SCIENCE: (a) Master’s in Information and Computer Science; OR (b) Bachelor’s in Information and Computer Science and 3 years of related work experience in ICS. Desirable Qualification: Knowledge of cybersecurity.
  14. MATHEMATICS (Remedial): (a) Master’s in Mathematics; OR (b) Master’s in Education AND Bachelor’s in Math; OR (c) M.Ed. in Mathematics; OR (d) Master’s in STEM-related field (engineering, physical science, biological science or other STEM-related fields that require a minimum of 4-6 math or disciplinary math courses as part of the baccalaureate or master’s degree); OR (e) Bachelor’s in Math and five years of experience teaching math, including high school teaching experience.
  15. POLITICAL SCIENCE: Master’s in Political Science.
  16. PSYCHOLOGY: Master’s in Psychology.
  17. SOCIOLOGY: Master’s in Sociology.
  18. WOMEN’S STUDIES: (a) Master’s in Women’s Studies; OR (b) Master’s in Sociology or Psychology.
Desirable Qualifications
  1. Teaching experience at a community college level.
  2. Demonstrated ability to work with adult learners and communicate clearly.
  3. Familiarity with competency-based instruction and behavioral objectives.
