Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Direct curriculum development and evaluation in medical undergraduate, graduate, post-graduate or continuing education.
  2. Teach medical students, graduate students, post-graduate residents and faculty in a clinical learning environment.
  3. Conduct and support research and scholarship.
  4. Mentor in the principles and practice of biomedical or medical education research.
  5. Evaluate and manage general internal medicine patients under the faculty practice plan.
  6. May serve as Clerkship Director.
  7. Other scholarly duties as assigned.
Assistant Professor Minimum Qualifications
  1. MD degree or equivalent medical degree from a medical school of recognized standing.
  2. Certification by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) and recertification by ABIM (or National Board of Physicians and Surgeons) when appropriate.
  3. Valid Hawaii medical license.
  4. Demonstrated ability in teaching and patient care.
  5. Ability to serve as a role model for students and junior colleagues.
  6. Evidence of effective research, scholarly activity, or clinical administration is required.
  7. Familiarity with curriculum development and evaluation, provider of the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME), Accredited Council of Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and American Council of Continuing Medical Education (ACME).
Associate Professor Minimum Qualifications
  1. Same as Assistant Professor plus:
  2. A minimum of four years in the rank of Assistant Professor. Candidates not applying from the Assistant Professor rank should have seven or more years of post-doctoral experience in a recognized medical school or major medical research/scholarship institution, or one year at the rank of Associate Professor at another medical school of recognized standing.
  3. Evidence of skill in tutoring and delivery of lectures and conference/colloquia, and expertise as a resource person in chosen field or specialty.
  4. Evidence of research/scholarship productivity.
  5. Clear recognition as a scholar/clinician among peers at the regional, and/or national levels.
Desirable Qualifications
  1. Demonstrated experience with curriculum development and evaluation.
