Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Serve as the Director of Clinical Trials Office (CTO) and will be responsible to continue developing the CTO to achieve National Cancer Institute (NCI) Comprehensive Cancer Center designation; assist in the administration of the program and with other related professional and scientific research endeavors; Responsible for the CTO activities that support clinical and translational research to include investigator initiated, federally sponsored research bases and industry sponsored trial activities to include patient safety, data integrity, regulatory, and organizational support of these activities.
  2. Serve as Physician investigator with active community-based clinical practices whose primary goals are to conduct clinical research and translate discoveries from the UH Cancer Center's research programs into clinical applications in collaboration with established UH Cancer Center researchers, the Hawaii Cancer Consortium members, and the UH faculty.
  3. Pursue collaborative research opportunities in areas where research at UH is especially advantaged and be competitive for national peer-reviewed funding. Examples of such clinical and translational research opportunities are liver and other gastrointestinal cancer, breast cancer, and the clinical application of agents derived from Hawaii's natural fauna and flora.
Minimum Qualifications
  1. ASSOCIATE RESEARCHER MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  2. M.D. degree or other generally recognized equivalent medical degree from a medical school of recognized standing; Minimum of four years in the rank of Assistant Professor, or four years of other medical experience, or a total of four years of teaching in the rank of Assistant Professor and other medical experience, or one year at the rank of Associate Professor at another medical school of recognized standing;
  3. Demonstrated proven ability in teaching, research, and program administration with recognition for having made a significant scholarly contribution to the clinical specialty;
  4. Demonstrated ability to plan and organize research activities, including effective interactions with students and/or assistants when appropriate;
  5. Demonstrated ability to serve as a role model for students and junior colleagues, and to effectively meet and confer with others;
  6. RESEARCHER MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  7. M.D. degree or other generally recognized equivalent medical degree from a medical school of recognized standing; Minimum four years in the rank of Associate Professor, or ten years of other medical experience, or a total of ten years of teaching in the rank of Associate Professor and other medical experience,or one year at the rank of Professor at another medical school of recognized standing;
  8. Recognized as a content expert in his/her field of specialization with evidence of national recognition in the field;
  9. Evidence of substantial research interest and accomplishment through leadership or co-leadership as a Principal Investigator or Co-Investigator on investigator initiated, clinical protocols or other research projects with participation in study design, conduct, analysis and reporting;
  10. Demonstrated leadership on clinical and translational research multidisciplinary teams and research resources;
  11. Demonstrated continuing career progression and a record of intellectual leadership in clinical investigation, clinical research support, research training or of a hospital program;
  12. Demonstrated ability to serve as a role model for students and junior colleagues, and to effectively meet and confer with others;
Desirable Qualifications
  1. A strong research track record with national peer-reviewed funding in cancer research together with a proven record of clinical and translation research.
