  • Nine-month equivalent (.82 FTE) funds provided. The selectees are expected to fund the remainder through extramural funds. Anticipated start date is January1, 2019, subject to position clearance.
Duties and Responsibilities
  1. The School of Ocean and Earth Science and Technology (SOEST) was established at the University of Hawaii at Manoa to promote excellence in interdisciplinary research and undergraduate/graduate education in marine, atmospheric and geological sciences. The Department of Oceanography within SOEST invites applications for three (3) tenure-track faculty positions in Marine Geology/Geochemistry.
  2. We seek applications at the assistant professor level with expertise and research experience in the broad category of Marine Geology/Geophysics. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to, chemical oceanography, sediment geochemistry, biogeochemical cycles, climate dynamics, marine atmospheric chemistry and paleoceanography, with focus on observations and/or numerical modeling. Cross-disciplinary interests are a plus.
  3. The successful candidates are expected to develop world-class oceanographic research programs supported by extramural funding, and outstanding teaching/educational programs that include classroom instruction and contributions to both the graduate Oceanography and undergraduate Global Environmental Science programs.
Minimum Qualifications
  1. Ph.D. in oceanography, geochemistry, earth sciences, or another relevant discipline
  2. Excellent communication skills
  3. Demonstrated capability for creative, high quality research
  4. Ability to contribute to teaching and mentoring of undergraduate and graduate students

  1. Record of teaching, research, and service excellence and innovation
