Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Work under the direction of senior faculty and Director to assist in the development, planning, organization, and management of HNEI renewable energy projects with strong emphasis on distributed energy resources (DER) and demand response (DR). Successful candidate will work closely with a broad array of stakeholders, including project partners, local and federal regulatory agencies, funding agencies, electric utility companies, and decision makers within the University of Hawaii and State government. Specific duties to include but not be limited to:
  2. Conduct analysis to assess economic impact, market potential, and program features for DER and DR implementation in Hawaii and other locations throughout Asia-Pacific region, as applicable;
  3. Work with HNEI faculty and subcontractors to integrate DER and DR into system grid models supporting Hawaii Public Utility Commission and development of Hawaii energy policy;
  4. Develop and implement communication and outreach processes to communicate research results to technical and lay audiences including integration into HNEI website;
  5. Prepare progress and technical reports for DER and DR programs;
  6. Develop and implement long range plans, schedules and research tasks for energy projects;
  7. Develop and apply day-to-day operational research management to meet program goals;
  8. Identify and develop opportunities to leverage HNEI DER and DR efforts with US Department of Energy programs and resources;
  9. Collaborate with Director and senior faculty to support development and preparation of proposals including identification of funding opportunities, coordination of proposal submission, and completion of submission documents; and
  10. Perform other duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
  1. Masters degree plus 30 credits of graduate study from a college or university of recognized standing in engineering, economics, public policy or other relevant discipline. Substantial experience in highly relevant area, beyond the required minimum 3 years may substitute for additional coursework.
  2. Minimum 3 years professional experience in analysis of distributed energy resources and/or data analytics.
  3. Demonstrated ability to interpret and present technical information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials; and establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders and members, and individuals.
  4. Proficient computer knowledge and skills to support preparation of professional quality proposals, reports, and communication materials.
Desirable Qualifications
  1. Industrial and/or government experience in the energy sector such as state or federal government agency which required excellent communications and organizational skills.
  2. Familiarity with utility operations especially those related to implementation of DER and DR technologies.
  3. Familiarity with Hawaii energy programs, organizations, and business practices.
  4. Experience in development of proposals for federal funding.
