  • Nine-month equivalent (.82) FTE funds provided. The selectee is expected to fund the remainder through external funds. Position is expected to begin August 1, 2017 or as mutually acceptable.
Duties and Responsibilities
  1. The School of Ocean and Earth Science and Technology (SOEST) was established at the University of Hawaii at Manoa to promote excellence in interdisciplinary research and undergraduate/graduate education in marine, atmospheric and geological sciences. We seek an individual with interests and research experience in the fields of microbial oceanography and biogeochemistry, and the ability to lead the Hawaii Ocean Time-series (HOT) program, a long-term oceanographic observation program at Station ALOHA that was established in 1988.
  2. The successful candidate will also develop outstanding teaching/educational programs, including classroom instruction and contributions to both the graduate Oceanography and undergraduate Global Environmental Science programs.
Minimum Qualifications
  1. Ph.D. in oceanography, marine biology, or other relevant discipline
  2. 4 years experience at the Assistant Professor level or equivalent, with evidence of increasing professional maturity
  3. Scholarly achievement judged competent and adequate for the rank in comparison with peers active in the same field at major research universities
  4. Continued evidence of participation in the scholarly and academic affairs of a university or other appropriate organization
  5. Excellent communication skills
  6. Demonstrated capability for creative, high-quality research
  7. Ability to contribute to teaching and mentoring of undergraduate and graduate students
